The "New 52": Six Months Later (Green Lantern Review)

One of two characters in the "New 52" that DC Comics decided not to "mess" with; along with Batman, Green Lantern has enjoyed unprecedented popularity since Geoff Johns brought back Hal Jordan from the dead in Green Lantern: Rebirth several years ago.  Since then we have enjoyed and been left jaw-dropped with The Sinestro Corps War, Blackest Night, & War of the Green Lanterns.  Johns has created several characters, & several Corps (based on the light spectrum).  The Green Lantern franchise has spin-off books Green Lantern Corps, GL: New Guardians, & Red Lanterns....it's own animated TV series, and a feature film starring Ryan Reynolds.  So...when the "New 52" began, fans of Green Lantern could just sit back and continue to read their favorite GL titles without worry. I've loved the title so far (actually going back to 2005), so....Citizen's Grade: Impressive.

Spinning out of the events of War of the Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan is left ring-less on Earth for the first time in what seems forever.  Carol Ferris; his long-time friend, romantic interest, and member of the Star Sapphires, tries to console Hal to the fact that life without the ring isn't all that bad. However, Hal is having trouble adjusting.....money troubles, trying to find a job, etc.

Hal & Carol go out to dinner.....Carol thinks Hal will finally propose to her, Hal wonders if Carol will say "Yes"....to co-signing for a car loan.  Needless to say, dinner doesn't go well.  Hal walks back to his apartment (that he's been evicted from) after Carol drives off upset, when another trouble comes to his doorstep.....Sinestro!

Much to everyone's surprise (including his), Sinestro was chosen by the Ring to become Green Lantern of sector 2814 (including Earth) after the events of War of the Green Lanterns.  After being interrogated by the Guardians of the Universe, Sinestro was released and made his way back to Korugar to see what the Sinestro Corps were up to since he had left.  They had enslaved the planet.....HIS PLANET!! He needs assistance to take down his own Corps though, so he asks for help from none other than his most hated rival.....Hal Jordan.

Sinestro offers Hal a ring (that he makes from his own) in exchange for his help ridding Korugar of the Sinestro Corps. Hal agrees, and the two of them head off to Korugar to overthrow Sinestro's Corps.  Along the way we learn & witness some detailed and impressive character traits of Sinestro.....which leads anyone to conclude that perhaps Sinestro does make a better Green Lantern than Hal Jordan.  The two successfully complete their mission, Sinestro "screws" Hal on their deal (just a little though), and Hal is returned to Earth.

Jordan has decided to live "happily ever after" with Carol now that being a Green Lantern doesn't stand in the way of their relationship, but Sinestro has other plans.....the sixth issue ends with Sinestro being shown his possible future....and all that it holds in store for the Green Lanterns & the other Corps.

As long as Geoff Johns is writing this title, I will be collecting it!!
