Hip Flask: Unnatural Selection (Review)
Citizen's Grade: Awesome.
The Elephantmen Series from Image Comics, created & written by Richard Starkings is arguably the best on-going comic series in the industry right now! Hip Flask: Unnatural Selection was the beginning....setting up the future volumes, and showing the futuristic world of Hip Flask, Ebony Hide, & Obadiah Horn...among others.
They were genetically engineered to be super-human weapons of mass destruction, but now they must walk amongst the people they were created to destroy. Ebony Hide is one of them, an Elephantman. Even when he is befriended by a small girl, Hide is still haunted by his past and is forced to recognize that suspicion and contempt will always be his constant companions. The volume delves into how the Elephantmen were created, used, and where they are now and how they are adapting to society, and how society is adapting to them.
Richard Starkings is fabulous, a mastermind creator....and genius storyteller. So much of this volume plays into all the others, this is a must have collector's item!! Ladronn is also a master, his artwork is beyond description....it must be seen!!! The instant I opened the book, and looked at the first page, I was hooked....once I started reading I knew.....I love this series, this universe, these Elephantmen!
